Look What We've Done In 5 Years

We've pledged to save enough energy to provide electricity to all of the households in Shakopee.

We've gained enough participants to fit in 154 light rail cars.

We've pledged to save enough energy to produce over 16 million lbs of SPAMĀ®.

We've pledged to reduce our energy costs by enough to buy 937,000 buckets of Sweet Martha's Cookies at the Minnesota State Fair.

When the Center for Energy and Environment launched the Minnesota Energy Challenge in October 2007, we had a simple goal - to help Minnesotans learn about energy efficiency and reduce energy waste. We created a challenge for communities to compete around reducing energy waste that was both fun and easy and enabled participants to see the difference their actions made. We did this by developing an online tracking tool that schools, churches, businesses, and nonprofits could use to set goals and monitor progress.

The Minnesota Energy Challenge has changed a lot over the past five years but our goal hasn't. As of October 2011, our 5th birthday, more than 27,000 Minnesotans have joined the Energy Challenge and pledged to save more than $13 million in energy costs. This is a reduction in more than 228 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions! We're excited to keep growing and providing engaging and entertaining tools for energy efficiency education within Minnesota communities.

From our entire team at CEE, thank you for your support.

Happy Anniversary, Minnesota Energy Challenge! Thanks for all the great ideas on how to reduce my energy usage. One of my favorites has been ditching the car. I've saved money and lost weight! Great start to a new year.

My biggest thing the past few years, was, as a heat assistance recipient, I was offered insulation and a new heater, and I took it! It made sense to save money and energy, what a great program, and your emails made me bold enough to say yes, I will save energy!
